How can I cure athlete foot?
The treatment and cure of athlete foot can be divided into two parts. First, and most importantly, you need to make the infected area less suitable for the fungus to grow. To do this, try the following:
- Keep the area clean and dry. Dry the feet thoroughly after bathing especially in between the toes.
- Buy shoes that are leather or other breathable material. Shoe materials such as vinyl don't breath and can cause your feet to remain moist, which provides an excellent area for the fungus to breed.
- Wear absorbent socks that wick water away from your feet.
- Powders, especially medicated powders, can help keep your feet dry.
- Soak your feet in a drying solution of aluminum acetate.
Additional athlete’s foot treatments Athlete’s foot infections may disappear spontaneously or can persist for years. It can be a difficult condition to treat and may often recur. Best athlete’s foot treatment results usually are obtained with early treatment before the fungal infection establishes itself firmly.
The second part of athlete foot treatment is the use of antifungal creams. Many medications are available, but regardless treatment should be continued for at least four weeks. Several things to consider are:
- Anti-fungal powders can be used in socks and shoes.
- Diabetic patients should not try and treat this condition themselves, they should seek immediate professional advice.
- You need to treat the fungus spores in your socks and shoes otherwise the infection will return.
In most cases, 4 to 6 weeks of treatment clears up the infection. If the infection becomes systemic, stronger antifungal medication may be used.
