The ‘Unofficial’ Start of Summer

Are you ready and waiting to kick off the start of summer?
Memorial Day Weekend is usually the time that individuals and families host backyard barbecues and other get-togethers or begin their summer vacation travels. Many vacations will be taking place on the beach to celebrate and enjoy the warmer weather and the upcoming summer months.

Many cities also host events to commemorate the holiday with picnics, candlelight services, parades, and festivals.

Avoiding Congested Travel

Speaking of vacations, avoiding holiday traffic can be especially tricky around this holiday. Many people opt to take off on the Friday before Memorial Day in an attempt to ‘beat the crowd’. One way to avoid it is to take trips to other cities, away from the more popular destinations. Find

Traveling by car? Watch for traffic patterns, opt for routes that are less congested. Although these routes may take a little longer to take due to distance, it’s often not as noticeable because the traffic flow is so much lighter.

Shopping Sales

One of the other notable points for Memorial Day Weekend is the sales that are said to be as one of the best for retail. Local shops, big box stores, even car dealerships offer some incredible discounts.   For active and retired military, there may be additional discounts. Check with your favorite stores to find some of the best deals available!

Never Forget: Pause and Remember

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States that honors the fallen heroes of the military that have died during their service. The National Moment of Remembrance, which was founded in late 2000, asks that at 3 pm on Memorial Day, that folks take a moment of silence to reflect and honor the fallen.
