Uses and Benefits of French Lavender

French lavender is a common essential oil used in products such as lotions, deodorants, and cosmetics as well as in massages and aromatherapy. It provides a very calming sensation to relax the mind and the body, and even has various healing properties that to this day are still being discovered.

French lavender’s obvious use comes from its lovely floral fragrance. The oil is commonly found in air fresheners, perfumes, and deodorants, and is usually one of the main ingredients in these products. French lavender has been used for thousands of years to provide everyone from royals to commoners and now us with a pleasant environment that seems to disperse stress and tension. It is found in many night-time mists, body washes, and lotions because it has been proven to help people fall asleep by allowing them to release their stress with a few sniffs of the soothing aroma.

In 1937, a French perfume maker discovered some of the French lavender’s healing properties. After getting seriously burned, he reached for the only thing available to him at the moment: French lavender oil. Not only did the oil soothe the burn, but he found that the burn healed much faster than it would have under normal treatment regimens and it did not leave a scar. He began further research of the healing properties of essential oils, including French lavender, and published his findings in a book that became the basis for future research that is still being conducted today. (Read more about this here.) Currently, scientists are studying the effects of lavender on cancer patients with a bit of success in the fight against breast cancer.

Scientists have found that French lavender has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and antiseptic properties. Here at Naturasil, we include French lavender as an ingredient in many of our products. For example, the Naturasil Sulfur-Lavender Soap can be used on a daily basis; due to the natural germ fighting properties of lavender, as well as several other ingredients included in the soap, you can be sure that this soap will not only provide you a very relaxing and rejuvenating shower or bath, but will also fight off germs before you even know they’re on your skin. The scent of French lavender has also been shown to improve depression symptoms. One of the greatest ways to fight depression is to take a French lavender infused bubble bath. This will give your body and your mind a chance to relax, and the lavender will work naturally to soothe your mind, body, and soul.  Our French lavender essential oil can be mixed with any unscented body wash, bubble bath, or shampoo or it can be used with an aromatherapy oil burner to fill the room with the sweet lavender smell.

French lavender has many uses, as thousands of years of history have shown us. From its healing properties to its influence in relaxing the body, we can be sure that French lavender will continue to be used in many more products to come.
